Zatannurday: Deviant Art

I was out looking for artists that might be interested in submitted art to my new books. No luck in that department, but a lot in the looking for awesome pics of Zatanna one.

Here are some artists.  Make sure you go to their DA page as well and tell them how good they are.

Zatannurday: MachSabre Superwomen

One of my favorite artists is MachSabre, aka David Reynolds.

Long time readers here might recognize the name or at least his art.  David was one of the two Davids of the ShadowGirls fame and I have featured his art here many times.  I am doing that again today. Mostly because I like his art and Dave loves Supergirls.

So to celebrate the announcement that David is part of a new comic, Shadow of the Black Banshee, here are some of my favorite pieces, featuring of course Zatanna.

The Witch: Art and Layout

Art and layout is nearly done and I can't wait to show you all this book.
So here is a sneak peak at my latest version of Page 1.

Once I have all the pieces in that page will be updated with the artists' names.

I am going to use some Public Domain art from the witch trails too.  I just love the way it looks and it takes me back to the imagery of reading books about witches at the Jacksonville Public Library.   I hope you all enjoy it as much as I am.

Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice are my oldest son's favorites superheroes.  So today for him here are some Fire and Ice pics!
Plus tomorrow is the first day of Fall, equal parts Summer and Winter as it were.  Since I used Fire for the first day of Summer and Ice for the first day of winter, here they are in equal measure.

Art of "The Witch"

The Witch is done editing and now layout and art.

I have a bunch of art I have been buying over the last couple of years for this. So now comes the process of picking out images.

I have a few I really love and have meaning to me.
Note: All the art I am posting today belongs to me.  The artist holds the copyrights (it is still theirs) but I own the publication rights.  So these are not considered OPEN under the OGL or Fair Use.

Here are two that were done for me by my brother Daniel.   A Druther and a Halfling Witch.

Plus a magical Distaff,

These are from a former student of mine, Aitor Gonzalez. Two witches.

I am using some old Public Domain witch art to give is a period feel and some art from Larry Elmore.

I make no apologies for that, I have always wanted to have a witch book out with Elmore art in it.

There is a different set that will appear in Eldritch Witchery.

So looking forward to getting this out to you all!

Zatannurday: Team-ups

For the most of her career Zatanna has been a solo act. She has worked in groups; Justice League or the JL-Dark (not really the team's name) and some pairings.

But I'd like to see her in more team ups with other supers.

Here she is with Raven, pairing up with her dad Zatara, with other DC Women,  with Black Canary, and a couple times (here at least) with Scarlet Witch (here and here).

So here are some other team ups with Zee!  Enjoy!

And of course he did the immortal Morgan Ironwolf.

So check it out and you too can get some cool art from and old-school master.

Art Sale!

So I am taking advantage of the DriveThruRPG Christmas in July sale and buying up a bunch of art for all my upcoming projects.

I figured you all might like to see some of them.  This is not everything mind you, nor will everything listed here get used.  But I thought it might be fun to share.

If you want to see what they look like and what I said, just click the link.  I liked most of these.  Or rather I reviewed the ones I liked the most and listed them all here.    I just hope I make enough on my books to pay for my shopping spree! ;)

Enjoy!

Zatannurday: Deviant Art

Dipping back into DeviantArt for today's post.
I like DeviantArt because there is such a wide variety and my using their embed codes I can be sure that the artist in question is getting their full recognition and the control is all theirs.  If they don't want it displayed on my site they don't need to ask, they can just turn it off on their side.

So here are some of my latest favorites from DeviantArt.

Who owns this art?

Anyone know who owns this art?  I'd love to have this on a t-shirt.

Zatannurday: Dave Hoover

I normally do not pay much attention publicly to birthdays or death-days of people that have died.  I would rather remember their lives in the ways they contributed by living.  But I have to admit I was taken slightly aback to learn that while I was looking around for some Dave Hoover art for something else he had died back in September.

This week was his birthday week (May 14) and I thought a post at least was in order.
I liked Dave's art because he knew how to draw women.  Not all sticks with boobs, but curvy and, for lack of a better word, realistic.  Well.  At least within the bounds of comic book art.

He does a great Zatanna that reminds me of her Silver Age appearances.

I hope you enjoy as well.

Charmed RPG, and Dave Hoover

There are two things I would still love to do in the RPG Biz.
The first is create my own game from the ground up.  With Ghosts of Albion, although it is a complete game and I am very, very proud with it, I didn't create the mechanics that power it.

The second is write the Charmed RPG.
I have made no secret of my love for Charmed.  I loved the TV show and have been reading the "Season 9" comic.  I think there are many more stories to tell in this universe.

I'd love to kill two birds with one stone too.

Not a real cover. But I can hope.

I know I am not the only one.  Jason Blair (Little Fears) has called Charmed his "dream license" and Andrew Peregrine (Victorana 2nd Ed and Hellcats & Hockeysticks) made his own version back in the day. So I obviously have some steep competition in this regard.

But I was looking over some art from Dave Hoover and thought how fantastic would it be if the RPG book had all the comicbook art.

Looks pretty good to me.
Those are of course from the late Dave Hoover. He would have been 57 this week.

I am sure that one day I am going to write my own system.  I even have stacks of notes and drafts.  I just doubt it will be a "Charmed" game.

Zatannurday: Deviant Art Round-up

Cleaning up some links today.  Here are some Zatanna pics you all might enjoy. Hope to have something next week about a new potential Zatanna comic appearance.

In Young Justice related news it has been reported by DC Women Kicking Ass that the action figure line for Young Justice has been canceled.

Here are some of my new favorites from Deviant Art.  No particular theme.

Zatannurday: Life in Fishnets

What do Zatanna and Black Canary have in common?
Other than being ass kicking DC women?

That's right, kicking ass in fishnets!

Well DC Women Kicking Ass has some updates on the proposed Paul Dini penned "Bloodspell" featuring Zatanna and Black Canary.

Here is the article from last year.
http://dcwomenkickingass.tumblr.com/post/5084195737/dinifishents

and an update from a couple of days ago.
http://dcwomenkickingass.tumblr.com/post/20183762520/bloodspell2

I hope it happens.   I recall him joking about this a few years back.  With Zee and Canary very popular on Young Justice, this just might be the right time to do this.

Here are the pics:

and one more.

A to Z post later today!
